Hiking in summer

The Thabor, Cerces, Galibier or Vanoise massifs?

The choice is difficult! However, the listed site of Mont Thabor stands out for its proximity but also for its wild and grandiose character. You will discover the green lake there, even with children. The Cerces massif is not very far away. It offers family walks between the Aiguille Noire and the Rochilles lakes which are spread out between the valley of the Col du Galibier and the Clarée valley. But also starting from the chalet you will find shaded trails for walks between 30 minutes and 3 hours. We provide you with IGN maps that will allow you to hike in the 4 massifs that are part of our environment, whether for hikes of 30 minutes, an hour or a day.

  • From Valmeinier, you can access Mont Thabor via the Neuvache Valley . This is the listed site of Mont Thabor but also a Natura 2000 protected area with a remarkable wealth of fauna and flora. There you will find rock glaciers, numerous wetlands and a petrified pine tree several thousand years old at an altitude of over 2100 meters.

  • Many lakes and a refuge: the refuge de terre Rouge will allow you to take a more or less long taste break! You will also find many mountain chalets there which bear witness to a time when livestock breeding and mountain agriculture were very present until 1960. Some remains of mining areas are also witnesses to the past which gave its name to the village of Valmeinier: the valley of mines.

  • To the south-east of Mount Tabor , the narrow valley and the Italian border. To the south-west, the Clarée valley: Névache and Briançon.

The Cerces massif and the Grand Galibier

The Rochilles path: one of the most popular hikes from the Galibier pass road starting from Plan Lachat. After an hour's walk, you will reach the first of a series of 3 lakes in a row under the Cerces massif, the last lake being the source of the Clarée. Not to be missed. Accessible to young walkers.

Other possible hikes: Lac Blanc, Lac des Cerces, Grand Galibier at over 3200 meters are among the possible hikes

The Vanoise on the Maurienne side

Many walks on the Aussois side, but opposite Valmeinier, starting above the village of Beaune, you can climb to the Perron des Encombres: one of the most unobstructed views of the Alps : many ibex, chamois and Edelweiss....
